A Heart of Compassion
(Devotional on Matthew 23:37-38)
Be moved by Jesus' compassionate heart for humanity in these verses. Discover how God longs to gather you under His wings of love and protection.
Scripture:
Matthew 23:37–38 (NIV) - "Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were not willing. Look, your house is left to you desolate."
Here, Jesus expresses a deep longing to gather and protect Jerusalem as a mother hen shelters her chicks. But their rejection of God's love led to desolation.
This reveals Jesus' compassionate heart, which exemplifies God's constant love for humanity. Though He desires to gather us, it requires our willingness to accept His care.
Like a family turning to God's sheltering wings in prayer amidst challenges, let's open our hearts to receive His compassion. May we find refuge in God's embrace, living in obedience to His Word and guidance.
Let's reflect on how we can respond to His faithful love with trust and surrender. As we dwell under the shadow of His wings, we are kept safe and secure.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for Your compassionate heart toward us. Forgive our resistance to Your love. Help us open our hearts fully to You. We long to abide in Your sheltering wings, trusting in Your care. Gather us close. In Jesus' name, amen.
